What R1 means
SAE 100R1 specifies a hose with one layer of high-tensile steel wire braid over a synthetic rubber inner tube, with a weather-resistant cover. One braid gives medium pressure capability. R2 has two braids and roughly double the working pressure — the two are not interchangeable, and fitting R1 where R2 was specified will burst.
