Three things decide whether a hose survives its service life, and none of them is printed on the fitting: the pressure it actually sees, the temperature it actually reaches, and whether the fluid inside attacks the rubber. Get any one wrong and the assembly fails early, usually in a way that looks like a manufacturing fault.

Pressure — the number that is not on the gauge

Select so the system pressure including surges stays below the hose maximum working pressure. Surges and spikes are rapid, transient rises that most common gauges never show — they need a high-frequency electronic instrument to see. A circuit that hammers can peak far above its steady reading, and that peak is what breaks the wire.

Temperature — fluid and surroundings both

Exceeding the hose temperature rating significantly reduces life. Both the fluid temperature and the ambient temperature count, and so does the brief peak rather than only the steady figure. External heat sources must not raise the hose above its maximum operating temperature — which in practice means routing away from exhausts and manifolds, or fitting a heat sleeve.

Compatibility covers the inner tube, the cover, the reinforcement and the fittings — not just the tube. Four variables decide it: fluid pressure, temperature, concentration, and how long the exposure lasts.
There is also permeation — fluid seeping slowly through the tube wall rather than leaking through a hole. It matters most with gases, and it is a manufacturer question, not something visible at the counter.

The environment around the hose

Conditions outside the hose degrade it as surely as what runs through it.

Cleanliness

The cleanliness the assembly needs is set by the rest of the system, not by the hose. Crimping leaves rubber crumb inside; that debris goes straight into a pump or valve and does damage that shows up later as a different fault. Blow every assembly through and cap both ends until it goes on the machine. And if the old hose failed because the fluid was contaminated, the new one will fail the same way unless the fluid is dealt with.

If the answers are not available, match the hose that came off and say plainly what was assumed. An assumption written down can be corrected; an assumption nobody recorded cannot.
