Can I use a hose with the same bore but a lower pressure rating?

No. The reinforcement inside the hose sets the pressure rating, and two hoses with the same inside diameter can differ enormously. A hose rated below the system's working pressure will burst, usually without warning. Match the pressure rating first, then the bore, then the fittings.

How do I identify a fitting I have removed?

Fitting identification needs three things: the thread diameter, the thread pitch, and the seat or seal type. Measuring the thread alone is not enough, because several standards share similar thread sizes but seal differently. Our identification guide covers the method, and you can also send the sample to our counter for checking.

Can I reuse the fitting from an old hose assembly?

Crimped fittings are not reusable. The ferrule is permanently deformed onto the hose during crimping, and a reused fitting cannot achieve the correct grip. Order a new assembly or have a new one made up.

What length should I order?

Measure the old assembly from the sealing face of one fitting to the sealing face of the other, and say how the two ends are oriented relative to each other. Allow for the hose to move as the machine works — a hose pulled tight in one position will fail early.

Why does the bend radius matter?

Every hose has a minimum bend radius. Bending tighter than that crushes the reinforcement and creates a failure point, even though the hose looks undamaged. If the route needs a tight turn, use an elbow fitting rather than forcing the hose around it.

Does the fluid type change which hose I need?

Yes. The inner tube material must be compatible with the fluid being carried. A hose suited to standard mineral hydraulic oil may not be suitable for other fluids. Tell us the fluid as well as the pressure and temperature when you enquire.

Do you make up assemblies to order?

Send our trade desk the hose type, length, fitting types at each end and their orientation, and we will confirm what we can supply and the lead time. If you have the old assembly, bringing it to the counter is the most reliable method.
