Do I need a wheel alignment after replacing a suspension part?

Yes, for any part that affects geometry — tie rod ends, rack ends, control arms, ball joints and bushings all require a wheel alignment afterwards. Shock absorbers and stabilizer links do not change geometry, so alignment is not strictly required for those, though it is worth checking if the vehicle has been driven with worn parts for a long time.

Should I replace steering and suspension parts in pairs?

Shock absorbers, yes, always as an axle pair. Tie rod ends, ball joints and bushings do not have to be replaced in pairs, but both sides have done the same work, so if one is worn the other is often close behind. On a fleet vehicle where a second workshop visit is expensive, replacing the pair usually costs less overall.

The clunking noise came back after I replaced the bushings. Why?

The most common cause is tightening the bushing bolts while the suspension was hanging in the air. A rubber bushing twists rather than rotates, so it must be tightened with the suspension at normal ride height. Tightened in the air, the bushing is permanently twisted and tears early. The second most common cause is that the noise was never the bushing — check the stabilizer links.

Can I fit polyurethane bushings instead of rubber?

Yes, and they last longer and sharpen the handling, but they transmit more road noise and vibration into the cabin. They suit hard-worked and loaded vehicles. For a passenger vehicle where ride comfort matters, rubber to original specification is usually the better choice.

Is a torn rubber boot really a reason to replace the joint?

Yes. Once the boot splits, the grease escapes and water and grit enter. The joint may still feel tight when you check it, but contamination wears it quickly from that point. Replacing the joint is cheaper than replacing it plus the tyres it ruins.

Why do you need to know left or right?

Some vehicles use a left-hand thread on one side of the steering, so the two sides are different parts. Tell us the side, and whether the vehicle is right-hand or left-hand drive.

Can I reuse the U bolts when refitting a leaf spring?

No. U bolts stretch permanently when torqued, so a used U bolt cannot reach the correct clamp load again. Fit new U bolts as a complete set, and re-torque them after a short period in service.

How do I order without a part number?

Send the vehicle make, model and year, the part you need, which side it is on, and whether the vehicle is right-hand or left-hand drive. A photograph of the old part helps. Our trade desk will confirm the correct part number.
