Clunking or Knocking Noise When Cornering

Diagnostic Check — Findings & Action

Perform play test on all 4 links — Any play detected = replace that link immediately

Inspect rubber boots — Torn boot → ball joint contaminated → likely worn

Check link nuts — Loose nut → tighten to spec; if thread damaged → replace link

Check stabilizer bar bushings — Worn bar bushing also causes similar noise — inspect both

Check strut top mount — Top strut mount can also knock — rule out before replacing link

Clunking noise louder when turning one direction usually indicates the problem is on the opposite side — the opposite side link is under load when turning away from it.

Excessive Body Roll When Turning

Inspect all four stabilizer links for play or breakage.
Inspect stabilizer bar for bending or cracks — a bent bar reduces anti-roll stiffness.
Check stabilizer bar bushings — if loose or worn, the bar moves excessively.
If links and bar appear normal, check shock absorbers — worn shocks contribute to body roll.

⚠ If Link Is Completely Broken or Detached
The vehicle will roll significantly in corners and handling will be unsafe at speed. Do not drive at highway speed until repaired.

Uneven Tyre Wear

Noise After Fitting a New Link

Symptom — Likely Cause & Solution

Noise continues after replacement — Check if stabilizer bar bushing is also worn — common secondary cause

New link clunks immediately — Check nut torque — undertorqued nuts allow movement

Noise only at temperature — Check top strut mount — heat changes affect it

Noise from wrong side — Test both front links — noise transfers through the bar to the other side

Remove the failed part. Photograph the failure mode clearly.
Do not discard the part — physical inspection required for defect assessment.
