1. Inspection Schedule
| Service Interval | Inspection Action |
|---|---|
| Every 10,000 km or 6 months | Visual check — rubber boots, visible damage, corrosion |
| Every tyre rotation | Physical check — grab link and test for play |
| After off-road driving | Full inspection — bending, loose fasteners, torn boots |
| When customer reports noise | Immediate inspection — front and rear both sides |
2. Visual Inspection Procedure
With the vehicle raised on a lift:

- Locate each stabilizer link — front left, front right, rear left, rear right.
- Inspect rubber boots: check for cracks, tears, or deterioration. A split boot = replacement required.
- Check the link rod: confirm it is straight. A bent link indicates impact or overload.
- Check mounting fasteners: both nuts must be present and tight. Missing or loose nut = immediate replacement.
- Inspect for corrosion: surface rust on the rod is normal but deep pitting near the joint is a concern.
3. Physical Play Test Physical Play
- Grasp the stabilizer link firmly near the middle of the rod.
- Attempt to move the link side-to-side and up-and-down while watching the ball joint ends.
- Any visible movement or 'knock' at the ball joint end = worn ball joint — replace immediately.
- A correctly functioning link will have zero play at the ball joints.
💡 Drive Test Alternative
If a lift is not available: one person pushes down sharply on each corner of the vehicle while the other listens underneath. A clunking noise from a specific corner indicates a worn link in that position.

4. Maintenance to Extend Service Life
- Keep rubber boots intact — torn boots allow moisture and grit into the ball joint Rubber Boot
- Check link nuts at each service — correct torque prevents loosening from vibration
- Wash undercarriage regularly — remove mud and salt buildup
- Avoid sustained high-speed cornering on rough roads — places maximum stress on links
- Use quality parts — WPR stabilizer links use sealed ball joints resistant to moisture ingress
5. When to Replace — Decision Guide
| Finding | Action Required |
|---|---|
| Cracked or torn rubber boot — no play yet | Replace as soon as possible — ball joint will deteriorate quickly |
| Any play in ball joint | Replace immediately — safety concern |
| Bent link rod | Replace immediately — structural integrity compromised |
| Missing nut | Replace link and inspect bar bracket for damage |
| Heavy corrosion at joint | Replace — joint may seize or fail suddenly |
| Surface rust on rod only | Monitor — not yet a replacement trigger |
| Clunking noise on corner / bump | Inspect all four links — replace worn units |
