⚠  IMPORTANT — READ BEFORE FITTING

❌ Do NOT mix types: Never install WBC Brake Pad on one side and New WBC Brake Pad on the other of the same axle. Always replace as a full pair (both front or both rear).

❌ Never reuse old hardware: Replace worn clips, shims, and hardware with the new set included with WBC pads. Reusing worn hardware causes noise and uneven wear.

❌ Rotor check first: Always measure rotor thickness before fitting new pads. Rotors below minimum thickness MUST be replaced — do not fit new pads on worn rotors.

❌ No grease on friction surface: Anti-squeal compound goes on the BACK of the pad (metal shim) only. Never touch the friction surface with grease, oil, or dirty hands.

⚠  Brake fluid caution: When pushing piston back, fluid level in reservoir may rise. Check and remove excess fluid to prevent overflow and spillage on paint.

📋  STEP-BY-STEP INSTALLATION

Step Action Detail / Instruction
1 Gather Tools Collect: jack + jack stands, wheel spanner, 10mm/12mm/14mm spanners, C-clamp or caliper piston tool, wire brush, brake cleaner spray, anti-squeal compound (optional), torque wrench.
2 Loosen Wheel Nuts (Engine Off) Loosen wheel nuts slightly BEFORE jacking. Never loosen fully while wheel is in the air free-spinning. Turn engine off, apply handbrake.
3 Jack & Support Vehicle Jack the vehicle and place on jack stands. Never work under a vehicle supported only by a floor jack.
4 Remove Wheel Remove all wheel nuts and take off the wheel. Set aside safely.
5 Inspect Rotor Check rotor surface for deep grooves, cracking, or below minimum thickness (usually 10–12mm for front, 8–10mm rear). Replace worn rotors — new pads on worn rotors = poor stopping + noise.
6 Remove Old Brake Pads Locate caliper bolts. Remove the 2 caliper slide bolts (10–12mm). Lift caliper off rotor. Hang caliper with wire — do NOT let it hang by the brake hose. Slide out old pads.
7 Clean Caliper & Bracket Wire brush the caliper bracket pad slots. Spray with brake cleaner. Remove all rust, old brake dust, and debris. Clean caliper piston face with brake cleaner cloth. Dry completely before fitting.
8 Compress Caliper Piston Use a C-clamp or dedicated caliper tool to push the piston back fully into the caliper body. Place old pad or a flat plate against piston face while compressing to avoid damage. Check brake fluid reservoir does not overflow — remove some fluid if necessary.
9 Install Anti-Squeal Shim BOTH WBC BRAKE PAD & NEW WBC BRAKE PAD: An anti-squeal shim is included in every set and MUST be fitted between the pad backing plate and caliper piston before installation — do not skip this step. After fitting the shim, you may also apply a thin layer of anti-squeal grease to the BACK of the pad only. Never apply grease to the friction surface.
10 Fit New WBC Brake Pads Slide new WBC pads into caliper bracket. Ensure clip springs are correctly seated. Inner and outer pads should sit flush and slide freely. Check D-code matches your vehicle before fitting.
11 Reinstall Caliper Lower caliper back over new pads and rotor. Reinstall slide bolts. Torque to manufacturer spec (typically 25–40 Nm for most Asian vehicles — check model-specific specs). Bolts must be tight but not over-torqued.
12 Pump Brake Pedal Before driving: pump brake pedal 10–15 times until pedal feels firm and pads contact rotor. First few pumps will feel soft — this is normal. Check fluid level in reservoir.
13 Refit Wheel Mount wheel. Hand-tighten nuts in star pattern. Lower vehicle. Torque wheel nuts to spec (80–120 Nm typically). Use star pattern, not circular.
14 Final Safety Check Test brakes at walking speed in a safe area before driving on road. Listen for abnormal grinding or dragging. If brake pulls to one side, re-check caliper and rotor.
15 Begin Break-in Period Follow the break-in protocol in the table below. DO NOT perform hard emergency stops for the break-in distance.

🏃  BREAK-IN PROTOCOL (BEDDING-IN)

Pad Type Distance Break-in Procedure Reason
WBC Brake Pad 50–100 km 8–10 moderate stops from 60 km/h → 15 km/h, allowing 1–2 min cool-down between each stop. Avoid hard emergency braking. Shorter break-in — metal compound seats faster. Ensure anti-squeal shim is installed before break-in.
New WBC Brake Pad 150–200 km Gentle braking only for first 150–200 km. 10–12 gradual decelerations from 60 km/h → 20 km/h with cool-down. NO hard stops. New WBC Brake Pad needs longer bedding to transfer resin layer to rotor. Ensure anti-squeal shim is installed before break-in.

Why Break-in Matters: New pads have a resin binder that must cure and transfer onto the rotor surface. Without proper break-in: noise, glazing, vibration, and reduced stopping power.

After Break-in: Full braking performance is available after break-in. You may notice light smoke or smell during break-in — this is normal resin curing and not a defect.

Glazed Pads Warning: Pads that were hard-stopped before break-in may glaze (smooth, shiny surface). Glazed pads squeal and have reduced bite. May require light sanding to restore.

✅  WHEN TO CALL A PROFESSIONAL

Call a mechanic if:: You find caliper pistons seized or sticking — this needs caliper rebuild or replacement before fitting new pads.

Brake fluid is dark brown or black — flush and replace brake fluid before or alongside pad replacement.

Rotor has deep grooves, hot spots (blue marks), cracks, or is below minimum thickness — replace rotor first.

After fitting, brakes pull to one side, pedal is spongy, or there is metal grinding — recheck fitting or inspect for caliper damage.
