Every bearing so far in this section carries load mainly at right angles to the shaft. A thrust bearing does the opposite: it carries load along the shaft, and it carries almost nothing across it. That distinction decides everything about how it is selected and mounted — a thrust bearing asked to support a shaft radially will fail quickly, and a radial bearing asked to take heavy thrust will fail just as fast. This article covers the three thrust types Win Auto Parts stocks, how to tell which your application needs, and why thrust bearings need a minimum load rather than a maximum.

1. Axial Load, Not Radial
အလျားလိုက် ဝန်အား
A thrust bearing is built as two flat washers with rolling elements between them. One washer turns with the shaft, the other stays with the housing, and the rolling elements run between them like a turntable. Because the raceways are flat and perpendicular to the shaft, they take pressure pushing the two washers together — and they have almost no ability to stop the shaft moving sideways.
A thrust bearing cannot locate a shaft radially
If the shaft is not supported by radial bearings elsewhere, the thrust bearing will be loaded in a direction it was never designed for, and the rolling elements will skew and destroy the raceways. Always support the shaft radially and let the thrust bearing do one job.

2. The Three Types We Stock
ကျွန်ုပ်တို့ ရောင်းသော အမျိုးအစား သုံးမျိုး
| Type | Rolling element | Character |
|---|---|---|
| Thrust ball bearing | Balls between two grooved washers | Lower capacity, higher speed. The usual choice for moderate loads |
| Thrust roller bearing | Cylindrical or tapered rollers | Much higher load capacity for the same size; lower speed limit |
| Thrust needle roller bearing | Long thin needles, often with separate washers | Very low profile — fits where there is almost no axial space. High capacity for its thickness |

3. Which One Your Application Needs
မည်သည့်အမျိုးအစား လိုအပ်သနည်း
| Situation | Choose | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Moderate axial load, higher shaft speed | Thrust ball | Balls tolerate speed better than rollers |
| Heavy axial load, slower speed | Thrust roller | Line contact carries far more load than point contact |
| Very little axial space available | Thrust needle roller | A needle assembly can be a few millimetres thick |
| Load reverses direction | Double-direction type, or two bearings | A single-direction bearing unloads and skids when the load reverses |
| Combined axial and radial load | Not a plain thrust bearing — use an angular contact or tapered roller | Those types are designed for combined loading |

4. Thrust Bearings Need a Minimum Load
အနည်းဆုံး ဝန်အား လိုအပ်သည်
This is the point that surprises people. A thrust bearing running with too little load does not last longer — it fails sooner.
- The rolling elements need load to roll. Below a minimum, centrifugal force and cage drag make them skid instead of roll.
- Skidding smears the lubricant film and scuffs both the elements and the raceways, which looks like scoring rather than normal wear.
- A spring or a preload arrangement is often fitted deliberately to keep a light load on the bearing at all times.
- If your application unloads at times — a clutch mechanism, a reversing drive — say so when ordering, so the right arrangement is selected.
- The same logic explains clutch release bearings: they are loaded whenever the pedal is down and unloaded otherwise, which is why riding the pedal and long idling both shorten their life.

5. Washers, Seats and Alignment
Washer, အခံနှင့် ချိန်ညှိမှု
- The two washers are usually different. The shaft washer and the housing washer are not interchangeable on most designs — note which came from where.
- Needle thrust assemblies are often sold as three pieces: two washers and the needle cage. Check what is in the box against what you removed.
- The seats must be flat, square and hard. A thrust load concentrated on a soft or uneven seat presses the washer into it and the bearing loses its preload.
- Some designs use a spherical seat washer to accommodate a seat that is not perfectly square. If the old assembly had one, the new one needs it too.
- Surface finish matters where a washer runs directly on a machined face rather than on its own washer — check the manufacturer requirement before omitting a washer.

6. Mounting and Common Mistakes
တပ်ဆင်ခြင်းနှင့် အမှားများ
- Fit the shaft washer to the shaft and the housing washer to the housing — reversed, the wrong washer turns and fretting starts immediately.
- Do not press through the rolling elements. Support the washer you are fitting.
- Check squareness after assembly. A thrust bearing loaded out of square wears a crescent on one side of the raceway.
- Do not over-tighten an adjusting nut in an attempt to remove all play — excess preload generates heat and destroys the bearing quickly.
- Lubricate on assembly and use the specified grease or oil; thrust bearings generate more heat than radial bearings of the same size.
- Keep them clean. Flat raceways trap debris and roll it in rather than pushing it aside.

7. Failure Signs
ပျက်စီးမှု လက္ခဏာများ
| Sign | Cause | |
|---|---|---|
| Scuffing or smearing across the raceway | Skidding from insufficient load, or inadequate lubrication | |
| Wear heavier on one side of the raceway | The assembly is loaded out of square | |
| Washer bedded into its seat | The seat is too soft, or the load exceeded the design | |
| Fretting on the back face of a washer | The wrong washer is turning — the two were swapped | |
| Cage wear with bright raceways | Speed too high for the type, or the cage is the wrong material for the temperature | |
