Article Overview

This guide walks you through four steps to select the correct WPR flexible exhaust pipe for any vehicle: measuring diameter, choosing length, selecting construction type, and choosing flange configuration. Includes a full size reference chart and vehicle application guide.

Step 1 — Measure the Pipe Diameter  —  အဆင့် ၁ — Pipe အချင်း တိုင်းတာပါ

The most critical measurement. Measure the inner diameter (ID) of the existing exhaust pipe at the connection point. Use a vernier caliper for accuracy — a measurement error of even 2mm can mean the wrong part.

💡  How to Measure Correctly

  1. Remove the damaged flex pipe completely if possible for easiest measurement.
  2. Measure the inside diameter of the pipe at the cut/connection end using a vernier caliper.
  3. If the pipe end is damaged or corroded: measure the OD (outer diameter) instead, then subtract approximately 3mm to estimate the ID.
  4. Take three measurements at different positions around the pipe and use the average.

Diameter Reference Chart — Inch to Millimetre  —

Nominal Size ID (mm) OD (mm) Common Vehicle Applications
1.5" 38 42 Small passenger cars, city vehicles
1.75" 45 48 Compact sedans, hatchbacks
2" 51 54 Toyota Vios, Honda City, Mazda 3, mid-size sedans
2.4" 60.5 63.5 Toyota Camry, Fortuner, mid-size SUVs
2.5" 63.5 ~67 Toyota Hilux, Ford Ranger, Mitsubishi Triton pickups
2.6" ~66 ~70 Large SUVs, Prado, Land Cruiser
3" 76 ~80 Isuzu D-Max, Mitsubishi Triton 3.0, light commercial
3-1/4" 83 89 Medium commercial trucks
3-1/2" ~88 ~95 Hino 300, Isuzu NLR, Fuso Canter light truck
4" 102 ~108 Hino 500, Isuzu NMR/NPR, medium trucks
5" 127 ~133 Heavy trucks, buses, large diesel vehicles

Step 2 — Choose the Correct Length  —

The flex pipe length affects both flexibility and durability. A longer flex section provides more movement range but may sag under its own weight on larger pipes. Match the length to the original specification where possible.

Length Available Typical Application
10" / 10.5" (254–267mm) Short replacement — tight engine bays, small to mid-size vehicles
12" / 13" (303–330mm) Medium length — mid-size and larger passenger vehicles
14" / 15" (356–382mm) Long section — trucks, SUVs, commercial vehicles
17" (432mm) Extended length — special applications, larger engine bays

Factor 2-Layer (No Braid) — Standard 3-Layer (With Inner Braid) — Heavy Duty
Vehicle Type Passenger cars, light MPVs, SUVs Trucks, vans, buses, heavy commercial
Engine Size Up to ~2,500cc 2,500cc and above, diesel trucks
Load Conditions Normal passenger use Load carrying, towing, high-mileage use
Road Conditions Paved urban and highway roads Unpaved, rough, or potholed roads
Myanmar Examples Toyota Vios, Honda City, Mazda 3 Isuzu D-Max, Hino 300/500, Mitsubishi Fuso
Durability Standard — good for normal conditions Heavy Duty — longer life under high load

⚠️  Do Not Underspec on Commercial Vehicles

Installing a 2-layer (no braid) flex pipe on a diesel truck or commercial vehicle is a false economy. The pipe will fail faster under the higher vibration load, costing more in repeated replacements. Always use 3-layer inner braid on Isuzu, Hino, and Mitsubishi Fuso vehicles.

Step 4 — Flange or No Flange?

Check whether the existing installation uses a bolted flange connection or a slip-fit/clamped connection before ordering.

Check This First What You Need
Bolts hold the pipe to the manifold →  Order WITH FLANGE version — bolt-on, no welding needed
Pipe slides into another pipe or is clamped →  Order WITHOUT FLANGE — use exhaust clamps to secure
Old pipe was welded in place →  Either type can be used — without flange is most common for weld replacement

Common Buying Mistakes  —

  • Measuring OD instead of ID — results in a pipe that is 3–5mm too large  |  OD
  • Choosing 2-layer for a commercial truck — fails quickly under vibration load
  • Ordering a flanged pipe when the original was slip-fit — cannot install without modification
  • Measuring from a corroded pipe end — corrosion adds false thickness to the measurement
  • Not checking length — a pipe that is too short will be under tension and fail faster
